2/27/2022 0 Comments Week 1Hello everyone and welcome to my first blog post! My name is Braeden Rodgers and I am a sophomore in high school. For my genius hour project, I am going to increase my pitching velocity and increase not only my physical strength but also my mental strength. I plan to track my progress by taking videos of me lifting weights and doing various other things that will help to improve my velocity. I will have to learn how to edit videos and I will do that through my friends and also through youtube. My goal for this project is to add at least 3 miles per hour to my fastball and increase my body overall. Now that I shared my goals for this project I want to talk a little bit about why I have decided to do this. When I was first presented with this project I knew that I wanted to do something with baseball because that is my passion and I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old. I then found an area of my game that I wanted to improve: my velocity. Let me explain why this is important. I'm a PO, meaning a pitcher only, so I only have to focus on pitching and not hitting. This allows me to train to be the best pitcher I can be. Colleges now look for guys that throw the ball hard and I currently throw 81 MPH. That's a good number, but it's not a great number. I need to be able to throw at least 86-87 miles per hour to get interest from division 1 colleges. That is a big reason why I decided to focus on this for my project. My plans for achieving my goal are the following: eat healthy while including a lot of protein in my meals to add muscle, long toss at least 4 times a week, and work out at least 4 times a week. Eating healthy is a huge step in any athlete's journey to becoming the best player they can be. Protein is especially important because that is what's going to create muscle mass and allow you to outshine other players. To do this I will start watching what I eat and make sure I am involving plenty of protein in my meals. My next goal is to long toss at least 4 times a week. Long tossing is throwing the ball as far as you can and this is an extremely important part of this process because this helps to add velocity. My last goal is to work out 4 times a week. This will be the hardest goal for me because I don't have a lot of time during the week and I like to relax when I get home, so I will probably have to work out in the mornings before school.
I would like to thank you all for reading my first blog and I hope to see you all back for week 2 when I begin this process!
